A member asked:

My dentist told me that the bleeding that i almost always get after cleans/scales my gums would not happen at all if my gums were healthier and in better shape. does that sound right? i am on plavix and 81mg aspirin?

Possibly med related: I would ask the dentist what is suggested for healthier gums, but the bleeding may be related to your Plavix and aspirin. If you don't bleed when brushing teeth, probably minor problem

Gingival Bleeding: Many factors contribute to bleeding gingiva. Inflammation is first on the list. Your medications may contribute to prolonged bleeding after a cleaning, How's your home care? Calculus build up? Smoker? Cleanings 2x/yr or 4x/yr? Periodontal pocketing? Bone loss? Properly constructed prosthetics and/or restorations? It's not a simple answer... ask ur dentist what needs to get your gums in good shape.
