Hi doctors. i take 75mg plavix and 81mg aspirin daily. i am not diabetic. i get occasional blood in my saliva with absolutely no cough at all. i get gum cleanings every 3 to 4 months. how do i know if the blood in saliva is from gums or from lungs?

You're asking the same question as before, just worded slightly differently. Since you have periodontal issues and are on blood thinners, your gingiva will bleed more readily. Having absolutely no cough at all, chances are the blood is from your mouth. To set your mind at ease, make an appointment with a pulmonologist who can actually examine you, order tests, and rule out any pulmonary issues.

If you do not have cough, the blood is not from your lungs. It still advisable to see your doctor and dentist for potential adjustment to your dose and gum health, respectively. Wish you good health!
