Antipyretic: In laymans terms, fever is induced when infective agents stimulate the increase the prostaglandin levels in your hypothalamus (part of brain). Antipyretics work by decreasing these higher levels to normal levels. It is much more complex than that, more than can be explained in 400 characters.
