A member asked:

Can early swelling of macula be easily detected on a dilated eye exam through indirect opthalmoscope? or oct is the only test which can diagnose it properly?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Macular swelling can be detected with careful indirect ophthalmoscopy or direct ophthalmoscopy at the slit lamp. Most doctors use OCT to document and measure amount and because they have the machine and it is an easy test.
