Diabetic macula edema (DME) is due to diabetic retinopathy so a new lesion may occur in an area which needs to be treated in the future even this current asymptomatic lesion doesn't progress . So you need to control your glycemia, cholesterol and systemic blood pressure well for slowing down the progression of diabetic retinopathy. It is important to follow with a retina specialist as recommended.
