I recently had routine lab work and all was in range but when i looked closer i noticed my alt was 21. normally on prior years it was always around 15. should i be concerned about this? i had a fatty meal the day before the test. i have health anxiet?

ALT: An ALT of 21 is well within normal range and should be of no concern. Going from 15 to 21 is of no significance. Although it may be elevated in a fatty liver, eating fats in itself before the blood test wouldn't raise your ALT. Your lab results showed no sign of liver disease.

Agree with Dr. C: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, the difference between ALT of 15 and 21 is not clinically meaningful. Wish you good health!
