A member asked:

I have alcohol use disorder and am now recently sober. blood tests from 2 weeks ago with ast 135, alt 175. laboratory uln was 33. bilirubin was a bit low. mcv a bit high. i know i had fatty liver. does this indicate cirrhosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The gold standard for the diagnosis of cirrhosis is a liver biopsy. You must totally abstain from alcohol & should be evaluated, advised and followed by a hepatologist or gastroenterologist. In my opinion, the findings do suggest alcoholic liver disease more than fatty liver.
