If i get a total thyroidectomy for hashimotos is it dangerous to live without a thyroid? what are some risks without a thyroid?

Basics: Luckily there have been synthetic forms of the thyroid hormone around for decades. Taking a single tablet daily like a vitamin is effective in providing enough of what the gland makes for people to live normal lives. The surgery itself has its own set of risks, but in good hands it is a safe procedure.

Why surgery: Surgery is not needed for Hashimoto's. Treatment with thyroid hormone in the form of a pill should be sufficient. You should consider seeing an endocrinologist rather than a surgeon. Wish you good health!
