A member asked:

My daughter has had mild to severe constipation. we have had to use suppositories on her and then she will have big bowel movements. what should we do and how do we get her to go on her own?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Follow Dr's program: A pediatrician can write out a program for using various laxatives and the amounts of each, to do a clean-out of the bowels, and then to keep them clear while the bowels "recover" their previous normal behavior. The doctor can examine the child to see what might be the cause of the constipation. Many times, there is no obvious cause, but sometimes there is (such as not-pooping due to anus pain).
