Needs a plan: The large intestines jobs include storage & water retrieval.Anyone with hard stools is not emptying often enough to prevent excess water removal. CP kids often have muscle coordination issues that aggravate the emptying process, but all can be helped. A wetting agent like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) taken daily can help prevent excess drying & scheduled emptying at least twice daily can improve the process.

Check it out: Her pediatrician or pediatric gastroenterologist may want to do at least a plain x-ray of her abdomen to determine if she needs a " clean-out" before using miralax (polyethylene glycol). It is worth investigating, as years of distention of her colon place her at risk for diverticulosis, diverticulitis & possibly colon cancer in her 40's-50's. After the clean-out, the MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) is used long-term to assure soft stools.
