A member asked:

Im 41 and have been having a period for 6 weeks. some light days, some very heavy days with clotting. no discomfort or cramping. ultrasound showed 22mm thick endometrial lining, and an enlarged right ovary with roughly a 4cm cyst? is this worrisome?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Delayed menses ?'s: At 41, delay in menses is common, and the bleeding described will occur secondary to continued estrogen production and stimulation of the uterine lining, causing irregular uterine bleeding. A "4 cm ovarian cyst" may need to be biopsied to make sure the enlargement is a benign condition: this is done via laparoscopy, See your gyn physician for an FSH test, and possible laparoscopy.
