Strained something in lower back or pelvis in march. after sitting in the garden cutting, with a lean and twist of the upper body.been unable to sit since. have to eat standing. pain start in the butt and then lower back. suggestions much appreciated?

See physician: you need to be examined by the physician and then have appropriate test like MRI or bone density or bone scan. Depending on your examination he can order appropriate test including Vit. D3 level

Piriformis: The history and symptoms you describe suggest an entrapped nerve similar to what a piriformis syndrome can cause with the exception that the sciatic nerve is not irritated in your case as the pain will travel down the leg. Definitely worth an exam with your doc and possibly physical therapy once having a diagnostic lead.
