A member asked:

What causes grumbling or similar sounds to come from the abdominal area? i noticed it happens sometimes in the morning when waking up (hungry) or sometimes during the day maybe after i had eaten something?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Peristalsis: These are simply peristaltic waves of contractions that move substances down the gastrointestinal tract. They can be a reflex that starts as soon as food enters the stomach. When the stomach and intestines are relatively empty, such as with hunger, the peristaltic sounds are louder.
