A member asked:

Had echocardiogram that showed thickening of the heart muscle.my doctor is not concerned at this time, yet told me it usually doesnt occur until an older age.(i am 48).should i get checked by another cardiologist? my bp always good?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cardiologist: Is your EKG also abnormal? Thickening of your ventricle is abnormal and its etiology & significance should be explained. Hypertension, valvular heart disease, genes, certain cardiomyopathies are some causes. Worsening of the myocardial thickening leads to eventual dilatation and ultimately congestive heart failure over the years. Careful follow-up is needed. I recommend getting a second opinion.
