A member asked:

Does recauterization surgery after tonsillectomy reset healing process? will tongue, etc, hurt again? swelling again? can one still expect to feel better 14 days after initial surgery (as opposed to 14 from recauterization)? more details welcome?

Much less traumatic: A tonsillectomy involves cutting out the tonsils. A recauterization is in effect a burning of the newly healing scar, usually because part of the tonsil is regrowing. The recauterization is much less traumatic to your throat, and should heal much more quickly. You should expect to feel much better within 48 hours depending on how extensive the cauterization is.
