A member asked:

Gland swelling at below right eye lid. no pain, but it is red. what is the remedy for it. one doctor prescribed for surgery treatment.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wait!: There are small glands (meibomian glands) on the inside of the eyelids that secrete a lubricant & can sometimes get blocked up and swell. But there are no glands below the eyelids. If you don't have eye pain, redness or loss of vision, then watchful waiting for a few days is safer than immediate but possibly unnecessary surgery. Warm compresses and antibiotics may help the healing process.
