Tongue discomfort: Normally the back of the tongue does have larger "bumps" or papillae that have specific functions in digestion and taste. If they are enlarging or becoming uncomfortable, you may be using a mouth wash or some other kind of rinse that is irritating the papillae. Things like listerine or similar products can be irritating. You could not use these, rinse with a liquid antacid and salt water
