If my newborn that is a week old today which did pass a meconium stool whilst still in hospital but since then has had no bowel excretions by day 7, and cries for an hour or more post the majority of feeds the last 3 days, should i consult the pead?

Yes: No stool for 7 days post birth might be a problem. Your Pediatrician will examine the baby, including his abdomen, rectum and overall condition. Make sure you are breastfeeding every 1-2 hours until the baby stops drinking. You may need to wake your baby up to finish. Also check for 5-7 wet diapers daily, and if there is any yellowish color to its skin.
