A member asked:

Is sore throat from a pharyngitis less painful than a sore throat from tonsillitis? and if hoarseness is not present, does it mean that its not pharyngitis . is hoarseness the primary confirmatory symptom for pharyngitis?

Comparable : Pain intensity may be different, comparable otherwise, may be severe with both conditions. Hoarseness suggests laryngeal involvement, many times pharynx is involved as well.
