Probably not mono: Infectious mono is caused by Epstein Barr virus. Most EBV infections cause no symptoms at all; those that result in mononucleosis are the minority. Probably some mono cases have only partial symptoms, like sore throat. However, the vast majority of sore throats like yours, with or without "white spots", are not due to mono but to garden variety cold viruses. So probably not mono.
