I need an mri of abdominal. is contrast really necessary? im having intermittent severe abdominal pain. i already had ct scan w/contrast in dec showed nothing other than small hepatic cysts, likely benign.

Yes: The question asked is related to vasculature and ischemia or low to no blood flow causing your pain and contrast is critical in revealing such areas with affected vessel (s). The contrast used is different from the one used for CT scans and the MRI is more sensitive for such lesions.
