A member asked:

Past few weeks i've been suffering from moderate lower back pain. recently it has spread to sides (hips) and legs with s bit more pain. today the pain has become severe. can i go to a gp or do i require a specialist.

Severe = ER visit: Some common causes of lower back pain include: back muscle strain, back ligament sprain, fractured vertebra (spondylolysis), slipped vertebra (spondylolisthesis), herniated disc, spinal stenosis, spinal arthritis, urine infection, kidney infection or stone; tumor in the spine, kidney, or elsewhere; fibromyalgia, etc... Severe back pain generally gets checked right away, which means an ER visit.
