Almost: Life is not exact. Eating 1555 calories and using 300 in exercise is about equal to eating 1255 calories and not exercising. In general, losing weight by counting calories works well but people find it hard to have enough willpower to cut down on calories eaten, or enough stamina to exercise away large numbers of calories. The math does not lie, whether one is losing weight or gaining weight.
