Ice or heating Pad.: I personally like to use ice pack for the first 5-7 days, and after that a heating pad. That + nsaids would certainly help.

Yes it is fine: You will notice that in sports teams there is a team doctor and they use ice or heat. I tell the patients their body sense is good. If it feels better to ice it then go ahead. If gentle heat helps then do so. But then go over yuor MRI withy our orthopedic surgeon and hope your symptoms get better with conservative treatment.
