Knee immobilizer: This would be the least expensive and get the job done till you get the MRI and your dr diagnoses you. It will rest the knee for you.

Yes, or crutches.: It's always best to "treat for the worst" until a diagnosis is established, unless there are risk to therapy. If you are having acute pain, being non-weight bearing or braced could prevent further injury.
