Absorption issue: When an antibiotic and the oral contraceptive are taken at the same time , the antibiotic will be absorbed preferentially. The antibiotic must be taken at least 4 hours apart from the oral contraceptive to avoid this issue. Better yet, use a "back up" means of contraception in addition to the pill such as a vaginal contraceptive or condom if you are sexually active to avoid a non planned pregnancy
