Amoxicillin dose: 1500mg twice daily is a high dose, but it depends on a patient's weight. Resistant Strep. pneumoniae requires high dose amoxicillin of 80-90 mg/kg/day in children to overcome resistance now. Usually, the adult dose is 850mg bid. Is there a reason your doctor may be worried about antibiotic resistance? I would call the pharmacy and ask them to call the doctor. Take 500mg bid until you hear back.

No: Amoxicillin 500 mg BID is a normal dose. Because of increasing antibiotic resistance even larger doses are often required.
