?age?: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less.

Consider PCD: If your child has a persistent nasal discharge, primary or secondary ciliary dyskinesia may be one cause. Chronic infection should be ruled out and please discuss a culture of nasal washing with your pediatrician. Treatment with nasal saline is often effective. Ensure that feedings are normal and tolerated. Please monitor for fever and keep the baby well hydrated.
