A member asked:

I recently had a mri of my left knee. i had a total knee replacement back in september 2019. the mri revealed there is post surgical thickening and scarring within the hoffas fat pad. can you explain what this means? thank you.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Scarring: Hoffa's fat pad is fatty tissue under the kneecap. Scarring of this tissue can occur after types of injury and, I assume, after surgical procedures. This fat pad is sensitive and can be a source of discomfort. I'm sure the surgeon who performed your procedure can best answer your question.
