A member asked:

I am getting a pap smear and a mirena put in on the same day. if my pap smear comes back that i have hpv or cervical cancer, will the mirena need to be taken out? therefor make it a waste of money?

Your choice: The presence of HPV on such a study would not be unusual or require removal. As many as 70% of women your age have antibody evidence of past HPV on some studies. The fraction of Pap smears that come back with pre-cancer or cancer is small but significant. If you would rather schedule separate visits it is your choice but may not be covered by some insurers that way. Check with your plan.
