A member asked:

I had a cold last 8 days (stuffed nose, sore throat, feeling slightly feverish) after flying. i got better except my throat is still sore enough to cause pain with swallowing and there is an ulcer. is it still a cold virus or something else?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can examine: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or other viruses. Usually, one sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). Some throat lozenges or Tylenol or Motrin can temporarily lessen pain.
