No short answer: Herpes simplex virus can cause ulcers of the lips, mouth and throat and/or the genital area. It is infectious. It is usually recurrent & be quite painful. Your physician can get a test to make sure that is it and there is a medication that will help. Another possibility is strep throat, which is a bacterial infection, if not treated it can lead to heart valvular problems. Please go to the doctor.
