I want to know what is the difference between a total and partial hysterectomy?

Language: 'total hysterectomy' has a precise medical meaning: it means removal of uterus and cervix. 'partial hysterectomy' is not a medical term, most folk mean 'removing uterus but not ovaries' when they talk about it. Obviously this doesnt match well with the first definition.
