A member asked:

What's the difference between hysterectomy and iud. which is the best benefits from?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Very Different: An iud is used to prevent pregnancy and/or lighten periods (specifically the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud). A hysterectomy removes the uterus and prevents any future pregnancies as well as any future periods. A hysterectomy is not used for birth control, whereas that is the primary purpose of the iud. One should be completely sure they are done childbearing before getting a hysterectomy.
