A member asked:

My student (19 yrs old) got strep throat 9 days ago.has been taking penicillin for it. she came to my class today feeling much better but her throat was still swollen.is she contagious to other people?she gave me a book.can i get sick if touching it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: Strep is universally killed by penicillin. Those with strep throat who take it are not contagious after 24 hrs of treatment. The tissue damage & reaction of this germ can remain swollen for quite a while after the germs are dead.
