How old: With this issue umbi hernias are common in the newborns & big is a relative term (how big). Most self correct as the kid develops more tone in their belly muscles, usually by age 2. Black female infants are more likely to need surgical correction than white or Asians of either gender.There is slight chance the hernia gets trapped needing immediate surgery but the risk can be determined by exam.
