A member asked:

Currently on clindamycin for dental infection (150mg, 4x/day). am a bit concerned by rx label mentioning possibility of c diff infection. how likely is that to occur & is there any way to avoid it while still taking all of my rx?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Get it from bad luck: Each time a person uses antibiotics, there is a chance that the toxin-producing C. difficile bacteria will overgrow to the point of causing diarrhea symptoms. Any antibiotic can do this. The way to avoid it is to not get sick, meaning not need antibiotics. Definitely avoid antibiotics unless absolutely necessary. That means having good luck and working closely with one's doctor.
