Depends on details: If continuing to act differently, even after a mild injury, a child should be seen by his doctor. Sometimes an ER visit is needed, depending on the symptoms. Head bumps in which there is low-impact on the head, little crying, no changes in behavior, and no headache after the first hour or two, usually don't cause internal injuries. A child acting normally by 1 or 2 hours later is generally fine.
