Not HIV: You probably have read that HIV can cause peripheral neuropathy or other neurological symptoms like this. However, this would never be the only symptom of HIV; and in general this occurs only in advanced AIDS. HIV is an almost impossible cause in people who are not seriously ill with mutiiple AIDS related problems. If potentially at risk for HIV, get tested. But it's not the cause of this symptom.
