Surgery pathway : In order to become a surgeon in South Africa you will need to complete a 5 year Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (it could be at Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, University of the Free State, etc.), then work 2 years as a Clinical Intern, get a designation (Awarded by the HPCSA) and finally do 1 year of compulsory community service.
