Depends: Simple plagiocephaly self recovers when the kid begins to spend more time upright. It is the natural result of reclining on their back to sleep/play with weight of their face/head & open skull sutures allowing the change. Remove the weight/gravity & the head resumes its more rounded shape. There are helmets that speed the process but these are seldom worth the effort.

Doctor can check: At the 6-month check-up (make another appointment if the check-up passed) ask the doctor (pediatrician) to decide if the head needs special assessment. A nearby medical center that takes care of such heads can do the assessment if needed. If sleep-position is the cause (most common), treatment may be recommended if the face or forehead starts to be asymmetric, skull flatness is pretty bad, etc...
