Does plagiocephaly often correct itself? or does my 2 1/2 yr. old son need treatment? his head is very asymmetrical.

Treatment: See your doctor about the treatment that is best for your son. One treatment option used in younger infants is a soft helmet that is put on the child's head to help correct the asymmetry. Unfortunately, by 2.5 years the helmet is less likely to be beneficial. There are options, however, that can be discussed with your doctor or a plastic surgeon for a 2nd opinion.

Plagiocephaly: If your son is now 2 1/2 years old there is unlikely to be any further correction as the bones of the skulls are now tightly fused and not mobile as they were in infancy.
