How can a doctor/local gp know you are "depressed"?

Dr. Heidi Fowler answered

Specializes in Psychiatry

Basics: Most general and family physicians are capable of diagnosing and treating clinical depression. Although many opt not to. When there is a question, a more comprehensive assessment can be done by a pscyhologist or a psychiatrist. When medication treatment is no longer garden variety, the care often bumps up to the level of a psychiatrist.
