A member asked:

What does the gp do to check i have depression?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depression: Your gp should run some tests first to rule out possible medical causes of depression such hypothyroidism. If your tests are negative they should ask you a series of questions such as: are you having any problems with motivation, concentration, sleep, appetite, enjoying things, ability to function. If they do not do a full assessment and just want to give you medication, i would see a psychiatrist.
