WBC's: Can you be sure that the urine specimen contained no vaginal material which could have contained some sterile sediment? Did you have burning on urination and urinary frequency which are common in bladder infections? Some bacteria are difficult to culture and we often empirically treat culture negative patients with classic symptoms of a uti. Stones usually cause red blood cells in the urine.

My 3 year old was on cefdinir for strep throat. She developed a rash so Dr switched to azithromycin. Then she developed some pains, went to hospital US was fine. Rapid urine was neg. Can antibiotic mask a UTI on a rapid test? they also sent culture?
