A member asked:

How long can i expect my newborn granddaughter, of 4 days old to pass stool postoperatively following a minor exomphalos repair/ closure to pass stool. she is on breast milk and presently only passing flatus. she had the op on the 15th may?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some basics: Breast fed babies can pass a little stool every time they are fed or a cradle filler once a week. passing flatus is a good sign the gut is functioning & open from one end to the other, so I would not consider this unusual.
