A 28-year-old male asked:
when my 1 month old baby drinks bottle, she sounds hoarse....how can i make sure that my baby is fine?

Patterns: Babies establish patterns of how well they feed, interact, cuddle, sleep, etc. . If this pattern is relatively stable I would not assume being hoarse has any importance beyond making you more alert to her needs. It likely represents overuse of her vocal cords during a fussy period & will self heal over time.

Baby Feeding: Consider pumping off the breast milk and trying a 0 (zero) baby nipple to slow down the flow. If the child is hungry and you have the breast milk, i would feed. You can also call your ob.

A 18-year-old female asked:
If a one month old baby gets sick will she be able to take any , medicine?

Usually no...: There are a few medicines that can be used in 1 month olds, but never unless your baby's physician is aware and tells you it is ok. You don't want to be hiding things like a fever in this age group - that can signal something very serious. So never try treating symptoms yourself on a 1 month-old. Discuss the symptoms with your pediatrician and then they will let you know if your child needs more.

Continuation: Continuation of question -Baby not sleeping well due to congestion. Babies only breath through nose not via mouth. Use 1-2 drops of saline drops to each nares followed by bulb syringe every 3-4 hours and before feeding and sleep. Continue to have baby sleep on her back. Have her seen by doctor or in urgent care if temperature is above 100.4 F.
