A member asked:

As a 54 year old male i've never had a prostate exam, is it sufficient to just have a psa test, or is it advisable to have a physical exam? (my father had prostate cancer.) also, is it advisable to have a colonoscopy? what are my next steps? thanks?

Both: You should see a doctor for an evaluation, including a prostate examination and a discussion about getting PSA. A screening colonoscopy is advisable. At a minimum you should have your stool tested for occult blood. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
