Knee injury : i would recommend seeing an orthopedic doctor who deals with injures to knees ,hips ankles and mostly all joints . in some cases you may have to see your primaery care doctor first then go to see an orthopedic doctor if the knee injury warrents a referral good luck

Depends: The first choice would be your own doc, who you have an established relationship & knows your history. If they feel your injury is something more than they can handle they will know the persons available in your region that could. Self referral is many times a waste of your time, with delays & extra out of pocket costs.

Acute or chronic: It depends on whether acute ,subacute or chronic.If you injured it acutely and swelled massively immediately,ten there could be a ligament tear or a fracture-then best to go to ER or orthopedic walk in.Ice it down ans place an ace wrap.If subacute ot chronic,then primary with referal to orthopedic as indicated.
