He has an ear infection, he is getting grommets on monday. but tonight he started vomiting and he is not keeping anything down, he also has a lot of mucus and it is causing him discomfort and bringing on the vomiting. do i take him to hospital?

Hard to say: This is something you should handle just as you would any other illness. If he doesn't make pee in 8 hrs he is dry & needs to be seen. If he can tolerate ice chips & a slow advance of fluids he may do well at home. If he truly spooks you take him in.
